Real Motives & A Different Angle

March 2, 2011 marks 13 years since Casey Harmon's death. Since 1998 I have been charged, sentenced & started serving a life sentence without the possibility for parole for murdering Casey. And during these 13 years, Mr. John Harmon has -on numerous occasions- used the death of his son to gain the attention of the media & be in the public eye. This wasn't for a good cause or some noble purpose. Just the opposite. It seems Mr. Harmon is using Casey's death to milk the public for sympathy & have his own 15 minutes of fame.
Casey R. Harmon (Deputy Sheriff) Lee County, MS. Sheriff Department By John Harmon, Blue Springs, MS USA Casey was 20 years old, working at the Julenile Detention center in Tupelo,Ms. A 16 year old suspect was being helded for shoplifting. The suspect was being released when he pulled a gun out of his shoe and fired a shot to the head of Casey, killing him instantly. The suspect escaped, but was captured later that night near Memphis. The suspect, Stephen Farris, was sentenced to life with out parole , Plus 70 years. Casey Harmon came from a history of law enforcement, his grandfather was the chief deputy for Chickasaw County, Ms. , in the 1960's, his father was a deputy sheriff for almost 20 years, and his two brothers are currently deputy sheriffs with Chickasaw County.
When we're not looking at just one side of the story, one set of skewed facts, it's easier to see Mr. Harmon's motives. Even in his memorial to Casey, Mr. Harmon has to mention himself & tag his name on. The truth of the matter is, Casey means more to Mr. Harmon in death than he ever did in life.

This time Mr. Harmon has used my transfer from Parchman to WCCF as his excuse for dragging this unfortunate affair back into public view again. It's my opinion that Mr. Harmon's perception of Parchman is a strong point in the argument for closing the MSP down. He wasn't overly concerned about the level of security, but didn't want that I should be housed in a facility that is "modern" (i.e. humane). This speaks eloquently of Mr. Harmon's character.

A little history is in order here. . . Since 1998, I know of 5 escapes from Parchman. During one escape, 2 prisoners made their way out of the maximum security camp, Unit 32, that was just closed down. I know of absolutely NO escapes from WCCF since it was opened. WCCF also just installed an electric perimeter fence that cost upwards of $400,000. No matter where I'm housed, I'm still doing time. Mr. Harmon made an issue of announcing that he asked the DA not to seek the death penalty out of "mercy" even though I didn't go to trial. We now see what his brand of mercy entails. Mr. Harmon wants me moved back to Parchman. Whether at Parchman or WCCF, it matters not to me. Before I left Parchman, I was on an incentive program, had my own TV & radio, A & B-custody canteen privileges, & was housed with guys I've known for years. I don't have any of that at WCCF. So if Mr. Harmon can convince MDOC to move me back to Parchman, more power to him.

There are at least two sides to a story &, since we're airing all this, let's ask some questions:

  • What really happened that night of March 2, 1998?

  • Why was Casey Harmon working at the Tupelo Juvenile Detention Center (seeing as the rest of his family works in law enforcement in Chickasaw County), and what controversial incident made Sheriff Jimmy Simmons tell Casey he could either resign or be fired?

  • Why was 20 years old Casey Harmon placed in charge of a juvenile detention center, particularly in light of why he was forced to resign from his previous job?

  • Why was Casey carrying a pistol he wasn't old enough to legally own, & why did he have it in a juvenile detention center?

  • Why would a 16 years old kid with no previous history of violence -an honor roll student, Rotary Club Scholar, a Boy Scout, who was about to go home as Mr. Harmon reiterated, a kid that to this very day, people who knew him don't believe he committed this crime- why would he shoot anyone, especially an officer?

I'm no longer that 16 years old child, Mr. Harmon. You & those working with you can no longer threaten my life or harass me to any effect. And anything you do to attempt to harm me, I'll just use for good. Maybe this whole case should be reopened, re-examined & looked into more deeply.

What REALLY happened was the fact that YOU shot an innocent person in the head and MURDERED him. What's REALLY pathetic is this piece of garbage you just wrote that sounds like a bad Law & Order episode.... but whatever makes you feel better. If you really aren't the same 16 "years" old "child", then you'd show remorse for what you have done instead of trying to make light of it. (P.S. If you are going to go all "professional" and write a blog, at least learn proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.)

Maybe the case should be reopened. Just maybe the restraint and mercy given to you by the family of the man you murdered should be ignored and you should get the death penalty as you so deserve. Maybe sitting in prison has taught you absolutely nothing and you will forever be a worthless individual with no purpose in life but to inflict pain and suffering on others. It will eventually come back to you three times as bad. You are destined for a slow painful departure.

I would write an elaborate dissertation on why you are where you are, but you are not worth the effort. It is more than apparent you have zero remorse and only wish to blame others for your circumstances. I speak as someone who has had a family member in prison (since released) and a very good friend murdered by her husband who is now serving life w/o parole in Angola. Count your blessing asshole.

Your rant is nothing more than the desperate ramblings of a scared, insignificant person.

I was there watching when you were asked why and witnessed your response. I've never threatened you, harassed you, or attempted to harm you in any way or even so much as spoken to you since March 3, 1998. I'll be happy to respond to your questions since I personally know the answers. What really happened? Well, we know what happened because you told us out of your own mouth what transpired in the fifteen minutes I was gone so I won't waste the space on that answer. Why was he working at JDC? Because there was an open slot and being his explorer sponsor, and the supervisor at JDC, I asked them to hire him. He had aspirations of being an MHP and he was already trained and qualified. Why was he placed in charge? He wasn't. I was in charge of the center. He was working a shift. I don't know where you get that he was forced to resign since he left CSO to fill the full time spot at LSO and came highly recommended by Sheriff Simmons. I knew him personally and trusted him with my own life. I would've still asked for him even without that recommendation. Why was he carrying a sidearm? The legal age is 18 in MS, not 21. He had also been trained to the full extent with his firearm. It's a moot point considering it's not even the gun that was supposedly used to shoot him with. All officers carry their firearm when in uniform, and there are lockboxes to store them inside the facility. I personally witnessed him lock his firearm away that night. You only obtained it after you guys took the keys, his sidearm, and then locked him in the building to lay on the floor bleeding to death. I never understood the point of locking him inside where help couldn't get to him. Sorry and inhumane as hell is what that was. The 16 year old with the award winning background? You were brought to JDC along for shoplifting. You know? Stealing? There were only two other people in that building. I was gone for less than fifteen minutes from the time I left, til the time I pulled back up to the door. If it wasn't you, then why in heaven's name would you agree to spend the rest of your life in prison? That wasn't forced on you, you agreed to it. As far as John Harmon's need for sympathy or to be in the public eye. That's rubbish. He did appeal publicly to the city and county to fund a better detention facility with more adequate staffing. I've been the more prominent advocate making sure that Casey's memory lives on. I give him the voice that you took away. I assure you it has nothing to do with publicity. I miss my partner and my friend. I believe the Harmon's were more than merciful since they were very instrumental in making that deal you're now snubbing your nose at. Realistically, I do not feel the same. I've carried this nightmare with me for the same thirteen years you've been sitting there without saying a single word to you. My biggest regret? I traded shifts with him that night. See, you probably wouldn't have gotten over on me in the same manner. I'm not nearly as kind, gentle, and trusting as he was. But perhaps you are right. Maybe this whole case SHOULD be reopened. I wanted it to go to trial. Of course, I disagreed with the Harmon's as far as your fate went too. I don't understand your need to be so cryptic. Say what you will, because nothing you have to say will put doubt in anyone's mind outside your own friends and family. You are where you are for a reason and of your own doing. Now, if you think anything I've said here does you any good, feel free to use it. I'll see you on the other side.

Nothing changes the fact that you shot a cop and therefore killed someone you will forever burn in hell and why anyone would allow a inmate acess to the internet is beyond me you don't deserve that luxury nor a tv or radio you piece of shit. I hope god show you mercy because if I was in his shoes I would not.

P.S. Don't drop your soap hope u become someone bitch because u deserve it

So you think that Mr. Harmon is enjoying his son's 15 minutes of fame? This is not the way that he wanted his son to be known, just as I'm sure that this is not the way that your parents wanted you to be known. Something tells me, however, that they saw this in your future. They may even be slightly to blame. I don't know them, so I can't really say that. Personally I believe that any officer that is gunned down in the line of duty deserves more than just 15 minutes of fame. I also believe that you deserve to be known as the murdering piece of filth that you are.

Are you trying to get people to sympathize with you? Who would? You confessed your guilt (the crime is probably on video) and agreed to your sentence, so there's no denying that you are where you belong. No wait, you should have been injected years ago, so you're not where you belong.

Since you agreed to be put away for life, your questions are completely irrelevant. Does it matter what the real events were? There is nothing you can say or do to say that what you did was justified. If you thought it would, you wouldn't have left that question open-ended like that.

I have a few comments for you FARRIS. i cant MR. because your nowhere near that . your just a piece of filthy shit that us working people have to pay for housing and food. i see it as your daddy should have shot you on the wall instead of in your mother.i personally feel that because you are in lock up is too good for you ,you should have been shot in the head just as you did to MR. HARMON and admitted you did. but now you look to the media and internet to try to bring down the legal system that worked in your favor YES you should be DEAD too. That being said i wish you torture and shame every day the rest of your filthy life on this earth

I would like to say I think it was very "humane" of Mr. Harmon to help keep a piece of shit like you alive. If it were my child you would be DEAD. I think it speaks very "eloquently" of Mr. Harmon's character. That being said.. Lets move on to your character shall we. YOU are the one that shot an innocent man that was only doing his job then locked him in the building to die. The man that escaped with you on this horrible night was just arrested for killing an elderly couple. If we are LUCKY they will reopen your case and maybe.. just maybe.. we can watch you BOTH get what you deserve. And when I say "we" I of course mean the people that have NO sympathy for you like dear Mr.Harmon does and can't wait to see you REALLY pay for what you have done. Be happy you currently have a life to be threatened. I hope you suffer every second of your miserable existence.

There are always two sides to every story, the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

First and foremost, I want to apologize for any errors this post might ensue. Whether they are related to spelling, punctuation, or grammatical errors, you have my apologies. It states that this is a personal, not professional, blog… being that Mr. Farris has to rely on someone to type his posts, I feel any errors are a moot point…he has no access to the internet …I’m just saying…
Regardless, there will be no errors pertaining to the facts this post entails. My husband and I found Officer Harmon at approximately 08:50 P.M. after he’d been shot on March 02, 1998. When we arrived the door was not locked, as implied in an earlier post. I stood in the doorway holding my 18 month old daughter, trying to ascertain if Officer Harmon was breathing as my husband ran for help, he couldn’t get an outside phone line to call for help, so I know the door was not locked. I had received a call from Officer Harmon at approximately 07:55P.M., he died at approximately 08:05P.M, and I found him at approximately 08:50P.M. (I have phone records, autopsy report, and respondent times to verify this) a 55 minute differential, not a 15 minute differential as implied in an earlier post. I thank God that Officer Harmon did not lie suffering, bleeding to death, as was implied in an earlier post. The autopsy report states that he died instantly …no one could have helped him prior to my husband and me had they tried which they didn’t…or had someone found him and just left him lying there? There was a Sheriffs car pulling out of the second drive as I pulled in the first, did an officer find Harmon and just leave him there?
Award winning background….yes, but I think he failed to mention Nation Math Award recipient, published poet, and some others as wellJ . Studies indicate that 87% of ALL teenagers, regardless of their background, shoplift at one time or another during their teens. To the best of my knowledge shoplifting is a far cry from Capitol Murder…I’m just saying… Steven Farris plead guilty to Armed Robbery and received a 50 year sentence for taking the handgun Officer Harmon carried (which was registered to his father because firearms cannot be purchased by anyone under 21 years of age in MS) and keys (a mandatory part of the plea bargain), however, Jake Carpenter stated in his sentencing (which was separate) that he took the firearm and keys (I have this manuscript). Steven Farris plead guilty to Burglary of a Dwelling and received a 25 year sentence (a mandatory part of the plea bargain) for a burglary that occurred in the a.m. of March02, 1998. He was home with his step-father all morning on that day, it would have been impossible for him to have burglarized the home. Why on earth would he agree to the rest of his life in prison if he were innocent? Perhaps because he was a 16 year old CHILD being tried as an ADULT for Capitol Murder, and prosecution was trying to kill him? I really hate to disillusion people but a large number of innocent people are convicted of crimes they have not committed. A 16 year old cannot buy tobacco, liquor, cannot vote, fight in a war, along with a multitude of other things, and they cannot do these things for a reason. They are still considered children; their reasoning differs from adults because they are NOT adults. Steven, being a CHILD, was manipulated and coerced into the agreement…period.

Steven Farris was strip searched by mall security, was searched again by the responding city officer that arrested him, (I have the statements) and if procedure was followed was yet again searched by Harmon when he was taken to the JDC. How did he get a gun in? No, Harmon’s firearm was not the supposed murder weapon, it might have been in a lock box at one point on 03-02-98, but it was not in a lock box when he died, contrary to policy. The “supposed” murder weapon was found under Jake Carpenters seat when they were caught near Memphis (I have the reports), yet the forensic ballistics test (I have the reports) could not prove conclusively that the projectile removed from Harmon came from “supposed” murder weapon.
Rubbish? I think not… Mr. Farris was referring to Mr. Harmon using many strange opportunities to state in the newspaper(s) on several occasions that his son was murdered by Mr. Farris. Such as the wrongful death lawsuits he (Harmon) had against the department store Farris shoplifted at, and Tupelo City Police Department (for some misguided reasoning). When he (Harmon) lost his money and it was found then returned to him, monies to be used for his grandchildren’s Christmas gifts, Farris was again brought into it. When he (Harmon) and his wife divorced it was in the newspaper(s), Farris was again brought into it. Let’s just say there have been numerous times this has happened; Farris’ relocation, and let’s of course not forget that 5 million dollar juvenile facility that was approved two (2) days after Officer Harmon’s death. It was approved for 5million dollars, but over 7.5 million dollars was spent building it. I find it rather ironic that Lee County will spend that inordinately large amount of money to incarcerate their juveniles, but will spend absolutely nothing to provide their underprivileged youth with affordable, positive activities. Great message there: “We won’t spend money to “help” you in any way, but we will spend an exorbitant amount of money to incarcerate you when you fail…and we know you will that’s why we’re building this “monster” facility…watch out, we need to fill it up now.”
I find it absolutely ludicrous when people respond in their self-righteous, narrow-minded, judgmental, delusional, uninformed, misguided, and untruthful states of mind….some showing that their ignorance is surpassed only by their stupidity.

Steven Farris was not strip searched by mall security. I should know.....and I'm pretty sure that the transporting officer didn't search him as well.

When Farris was detained for shoplifting, he was allowed to enter a store bathroom stall to remove the stolen merchandise that he was wearing. He wasn't watched and he wasn't searched. You fail to mention the statement given by Farris to MHP Investigators about his intention to kill the first Mall Security officer that assisted the store loss prevention associate with the detention. Two more officers arrived minutes later and Farris was escorted to the Tupelo Police substation at the mall where he awaited transport. If I recall correctly, he was not searched by the transporting officer either. I will not mention his name out of respect for him. Again, if memory serves me correctly, Farris gave a statement about how he thought about killing the transporting officer. You fail to mention these alleged statements.

If the rest of your story is as credible as the first part, then apparently it is you who is delusional, uninformed, and misguided.

Steven Farris is where he should be, where he needs to be, and where he will remain until he takes his last breath. You act as if the system failed him. No, the system almost worked perfectly in this case. He plead guilty and the system responded swiftly and adequately except for one thing. He should have been executed for killing a law enforcement officer.....simple as that. I don't care about his grades, awards, or anything else about him. He was adjudicated a murderer and justice was served.

You know, it's not really for me to judge since I wasn't there.... regardless of my opinion. But this letter disgusts me and wreaks of your guilt. What saddens me is how such a good person was taken from the world at such a young age while another was spared only to waste valuable space and fill it with nothing but vile and disgust. It pains me to see another officer carrying this around in her heart. It isn't her who shouldn't be here. It is you...I'm not a religious person, although Spiritual....I'm going to make a reference though that I feel applies to you in this case....even Satan himself was cast from here....you certainly don't deserve to breathe the same air as he did. ~AA <3

The only thing I have to say to all parties concerned is I will pray for your soul Mr. Farris and to the family and friends of the deceased I will pray for your peace.

Matthew 5 (King James Version)

Matthew 5
1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

13Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

21Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

23Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

24Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

25Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

26Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

27Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

28But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

29And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

30And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

31It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

32But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

33Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

34But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:

35Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

36Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

37But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

38Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

41And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

42Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Dang, oh dang! I should have looked on here before today...ouch! Take you off? Jeez, I don't take anyone off, I don't control this blog...sorry to disappoint you. I have failed at many things in life, as we all have...but I'm not a bitter person, I don't live with hatered in my heart as you obviously do, nor am I God, so I won't point a finger, as you have. If anyone has a problem with this blog site stop reading it....duh! How hard is that? "Why then why did he run?" It is question that I have asked myself more times than your mind could possibly fathom...you tell me and we'll both know...okay?

In my previous post I stated things that were related to Steven’s case. Where I put that I had statements, autopsy report, phone records, etc. was not “all inclusive” because there is no way that I can post “everything” that I have related to this case. I have 1,600 to 1,800 documents related to this case…. I’m just saying…

I will, however, expound on this in response to a previous post. My statement that Steven was strip searched came from a statement taken by MHP, as did my statement that the arresting officer searched him. I will omit names in any posts out of respect for any parties related to this case. To say that Steven wasn’t searched by the arresting officer is pretty much saying the officer didn’t do his job.

Any mention of an “alleged” statement given to MHP by Steven that he had thought about killing anyone would have been bogus. The “alleged” statement in a nonexistent fabrication…so memory does not serve correctly.

I will add that Steven’s fingerprints were not on the alleged murder weapon, or on any ammunition retrieved from it, per the Crime Lab reports.

Of course, anyone has the right to repudiate the State Crime Lab reports, statements taken from witnesses, the phone company’s phone records, and police reports, etc. if they so choose.

My last name is Roberts and I was the first security officer to deal with Steven Farris at the mall. Since you know more about my statement to MHP Investigators and my deposition....please, post it for all to see.

You may be his mother, father, sister...whatever...but I was involved in this directly. I wish that I wasn't, but I was.

STEVEN R. FARRIS, APPELLANT v. STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, APPELLEE
NO. 2003-CP-01025-COA
COURT OF APPEALS OF MISSISSIPPI
881 So. 2d 392; 2004 Miss. App. LEXIS 876
August 31, 2004, Decided

Do you realize that Steven Farris doesn't post anything about his innocence? That fact was even mentioned in his appeal posted above.

Farris does not claim that he is innocent [*5] or that the death penalty was not properly sought in this case. Merely being aware of the direct consequence of his crime does not entitle Farris to relief absent improper conduct on the part of the State or his attorney. (taken from his appeal)

Mr./Ms. Roberts, I was not refering to your statement....yours was not the only one given I assure you. You post it if you choose.

I was involved directly also... I wish that I wasn't, but I was...

Steven wrote his own appeal, not being an attorney, or having any formal legal education. How many that read this post could have even done this well, sitting behind bars with only a GED that he obtained while in prison?

I'm sure at some juncture he will respond to your question.

Steven has published his response as a seperate post. To view it copy and paste the link into your web browser:

The only people that know the truth of what happen that day is God the officer and Steven and i feel sorry for the family but i also feel like its not right for ANY OF US TO PASS JUDGEMENT WE R NOT GOD......

Cops were looking for an easy target. The judicial system is far from perfect. If his finger prints werent on the gun, which was found In douche bags car, then why us Steven in prison . He is an extremely bright guy with no psychological illness which would be the only explanation for a sudden and unnecessary murder , just when he was about to be picked up. The worst thing is to let your emotions get in the way . The cop should not have died. There IS someone to blame , but it's not Steven... I'm sure the truth will come soon enough .

I'm curious.....there were reports that Steven's mother made an attempt to break Steven out of prison and was herself arrested. Is this true? Also, having known Steven's stepfather, he too was, by his own admission, supposedly affiliated with the mafia in Chicago, did time in federal prison and lead people to believe he was a bad ass. Is this true? If so, how then can we not expect Steven to believe he is larger than life and can get away with killing a police officer. to his mother....I loved you as a dear friend, but find it hard to believe you profess Steven to be so intelligent, yet stupid enough to confess to a crime he did not commit. When I knew Stephen he was a young boy, who was innocent. however, when you live with someone who professes to be bad, and brags about it to anyone who will listen,I think children are very impressionable. Steven it is insulting for you to blame the Harmon's for anything they have done or are doing in the grief of losing their son. If there is evidence to prove your innocence, why isn't the innocence program trying to get you free.

Irrespective of what Mr Farris did or did not do, irrespective of all circumstances, family background and who the primary victim was, can someone tell me why the US is the only country in the world besides Somalia which sentences juveniles to life without the possibility of parole, and a few years back, even to death? All civilized and less civilized countries recognize the fact that the underaged are to be treated differently than adults, even, or especially, for the most severe crimes. What is the determinant of civilization anyway? Gross income per capita? Access to education? Low crime rate? Effective social policy? Justice? In most aspects of civilization, America fails and sentencing kids to die in prison just shows how corrupt the country is. This is the country where money and not ethics rules, and the worst is that the so called "tough on the crime" ideology is corruption in disguise, nothing more, as it only serves to justify the great maoney-making machine under the name of "penal system", which they even dare to refer to as "correctional".
What is so special in Americans that they delight in seeing all their citizens behind the bars? No matter how old they are. If the Germans coed the notion of Schadenfreude, then Americans have mastered it. I count it as their most brilliant civilizational achievement. (irony). It is so sad to witness how the purpose of this great country (no irony) is to prove that all people are basically evil. All but ourselves, naturally.
For those who are willing to expand their horizons and go beyond their blindness I recommend the below report by Amnesty International. Perhaps it will make you think like human beings should. Or perhaps reading 32 pages of quality material is also too much to ask for.

Think how lucky you all are that none of your teenage pranks put you in jail. I assure you, this is only the matter of favourable circumstances, and does not prove that you are good people.

To finish, I will quote a poem by a Nobel prize winner, Czeslaw Milosz, translated for your convenience. Somehow, I feel the words in this case should be directed not at Mr Farris but at all those who spit hatred.

You Who Wronged

You who wronged a simple man
Bursting into laughter at the crime,
And kept a pack of fools around you
To mix good and evil, to blur the line,

Though everyone bowed down before you,
Saying virtue and wisdom lit your way,
Striking gold medals in your honor,
Glad to have survived another day,

Do not feel safe. The poet remembers.
You can kill one, but another is born.
The words are written down, the deed, the date.

And you’d have done better with a winter dawn,
A rope, and a branch bowed beneath your weight.

Washington, D.C., 1950

I agree 100% With Martha. I love living in a country, just north of America, that doesn't believe in the death penalty. The state should have absolutely no say in whether a person lives or dies. Everyone commits a crime, we should have all gone to jail at one point or another in our lives.
Hatred does nothing more than eat you alive, spit you out and make you spread hatred. Mr. Farris' case is like counterfeit money, it just simply doesn't "feel right" and someday the news will show who the real killer was. The killer with the reoccuring criminal record.

Information is the greatest weapon of all.

-Jocelyn.

Marta, you are brilliant! Unfortunately, I feel very few of the skeptical readers will take the time to read the 32 pages...we can always hope though <^.^>

Jocelyn, the case doesn't "feel right" because it isn't...your 100% correct.

Curiously anonymous, loved her as a dear friend?! LOL Now that post is one huge oxymoron. Curiously confused, or blissfully ignorant would be more apt.

Chris McCullough drove the get away car so he's just as guilty as Farris and judge Charles britt of lee county gave Chris 2 kids to raise Chris is a murderer to as far as I'm concern

Casey was my best friend. I was 17 years old and I still remember getting the news of his death like it was yesterday. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him. He was taken from us too young and by your hand. You are and always will be a murder. You speak of a family and a man that you know nothing personally about other than you shot and killed their son. You are exactly where you should be. I am now employed in the same profession as he and I take great pride in the fact that I get to honor him by working in the field he loved. I also a come from a law enforcement family, however I'm not an Officer.
We were not put on this earth to judge others nor are we supposed to hate others. I'm not perfect nor do I claim to be but I have to be honest and say that I'm selfish and I hate you. I hate you for taking him from us, for ending his life so abruptly. I hate you more than anything. I however forgive you. Your judgement will come one day and that will be between you and the good lord. Until then, be thankful for each day you do have. It's more than you deserve. You were going home. You didn't have to take his life. Explain that when your day of reckoning comes. May god have mercy on your soul.
